At the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, BIOQUAL swiftly began conducting challenge studies to develop animal models and co-authored two research publications on its model development efforts in the renowned Science magazine. This led to the development of the first successful preclinical testing of a COVID-19 vaccine candidate in May-June 2020, which subsequently ignited BIOQUAL’s partnerships with Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, who collaborated with it to pass clinical trials and receive FDA approval for emergency use within nine months.
