Managing Lab Data under One Umbrella

Today, laboratories are heavily reliant on Laboratory information management system (LIMS) to manage lab samples and associated data effectively. LIMS’s ability to automate workflows, integrate instruments, support compliance efforts, and improve lab’s efficiency has led laboratories of all sizes to invest in them. Although LIMS provides a significant advantage to labs, there are manifold barriers to its adoption. Initially founded in 2002 in Belgium, Genohm developed its flagship LIMS product—SLIMS—in 2010, enabling scientists to manage millions of samples and research data efficiently. Fast forward to 2018, Genohm was acquired by Agilent, a public research, development, and manufacturing company to innovate and carry forward its legacy.

Genohm’s web-based SLIMS and ELN platform is integrated with various features such as sample management, workflow management, and dashboard reporting, all in a single platform.

Genohm’s SLIMS comes as a full package that integrates with an organization’s instruments and equipment, tracing sample data through complex workflows, and provides peace of mind with secure data storage.

As a flexible and configurable platform, SLIMS works well with different scientific labs such as analytical, biobanking, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and lab research. The platform can track all the relevant data and lab test samples, including the original material shipment and results from lab machines. Unlike traditional LIMS and workflow management projects SLIMS avoids extended, elongated, and expensive LIMS projects for clients. Instead, the platform functions with flexibility to deliver the project on time, get the customers productive quicker quickly, and shorten their time to value. Additionally, SLIMS comes with in-built data security and integrity compliance regulations as per the market standards.

One of the main areas Genohm is currently focusing on is its internal SLIMS Store capability. SLIMS Storeoffers clients the ability to share and use the configuration that is already built within the Share. On the other hand, SLIMS Store houses pre-configured standard packages to install after deploying SLIMS. “SLIMS enables clients to leverage existing configuration in the app store and save themselves time by deploying the configuration that might complete their 70 to 80 percent of workflow needs,” explains Beary.

Genohm can deploy, install, and configure the SLIMS platform on-premise as well on the cloud in a few days. For the cloud hosting option, the company has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to offer agility, security, and cost transparency to its clients. “SLIMS also provides self-service configuration, enabling users to configure it all by themselves without the need for development,” mentions Beary.

Genohm now has significant plans for scaling its business in the coming years. Being particular about bringing individuals having incredible strong scientific life science knowledge and training with reliable IT and data skills, the firm is investing heavily in scaling its workforce by hiring talented and extraordinary people. Genohm also continues to improve functionalities of SLIMS along with SLIMS Store. On the market front, Genohm envisions making continued major strides in biobanking and NGS along with Analytical Laboratories, which includes integration testing and quality checks (QC).
