Types of analytical tests
New drugs undergo several types of testing to ensure their efficacy and safety in the pharmaceutical industry. An evaluation of chemical composition, a health-related evaluation, as well as a functional evaluation, is among these.
Tests can be performed manually or with equipment for all three types. A drug's composition can be determined using spectroscopy, blood work can be used to detect abnormalities, and physical examinations can determine how well a drug is working.

Equipment for analytical testing
It is any procedure that involves taking a sample of blood or other fluids and analyzing the components with specific equipment. It is possible to perform these tests manually (by someone else) or with an automated machine.
Analytical testing is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry. An example of a complete blood count (CBC) test is an erythrocyte sedimentation rate test (ESR), a chemistry test such as glucose or cholesterol, an electrolyte test such as sodium or potassium, a liver function test (LFT), a genetic test, an infectious disease test, and a drug test to identify drugs that may indicate overdosing or abuse.
Clinical labs are the only places in which these more advanced tests can be administered because they require either specialized instruments or expensive chemicals. A few tests can, however, be performed in a doctor's office or in a hospital.
There are times when doctors will order a simple check-up test before ordering a more comprehensive one. If these initial tests don't give you the necessary information, it's okay to ask about the longer tests because another clinic may offer something similar.
Sample preparation for analytical testing
Whenever a test is conducted, sample collection is a fundamental part of the process. For accurate chemical analysis, different samples require different preparatory steps. Glucose levels can be determined from blood, but not urine, for example.
Based on the kind of test you are conducting, you will need to collect a specific type of sample. Testing your serum or plasma for sodium levels, for example, can be done directly without requiring any manipulation. For others, liquid-liquid or solid-phase extractions are more appropriate sampling methods that have dedicated terms.
