Boston, Massachusetts: Pharmaceutical and biotechnology organizations are facing increasing pressure to improve laboratory efficiency, strengthen operational resilience, and manage complex research environments while controlling costs. Against this backdrop, the 9th Lab Asset & Facility Management Summit will take place from November 10–12, 2026, in Boston, bringing together senior leaders responsible for laboratory operations, asset management, facilities, engineering, and environmental health and safety.
The three-day summit will focus on the operational infrastructure supporting modern research and development. As laboratories become more technology-intensive and scientific workflows increasingly depend on sophisticated equipment and facilities, organizations need stronger approaches to asset visibility, maintenance, utilization, lifecycle planning, and operational continuity.
Asset lifecycle management will be a key area of discussion. Laboratory equipment represents a significant investment, while downtime can disrupt experiments, delay research programs, and increase operating costs. Organizations are therefore examining ways to improve equipment visibility, utilization, preventive maintenance, and lifecycle planning to ensure assets support research requirements effectively.
Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies will provide another important perspective. AI can support laboratory operations through predictive maintenance, equipment monitoring, workflow optimization, data analysis, and resource planning. However, effective implementation requires reliable data, appropriate infrastructure, and alignment between technology capabilities and the practical needs of laboratory personnel.
Facility management will also play a central role as research environments become increasingly sophisticated. Laboratories depend on reliable HVAC, utilities, environmental controls, safety systems, and other critical infrastructure. Maintaining these systems efficiently can help organizations protect sensitive research activities while improving energy performance and reducing operational disruptions.
The summit will examine these challenges through two dedicated content tracks focused on laboratory and site operations. Real-world case studies and interactive discussions will allow participants to compare approaches to reducing downtime, removing operational bottlenecks, improving asset utilization, and strengthening facility resilience.
Operational resilience is particularly important for pharmaceutical and biotechnology organizations where interruptions to laboratory environments can affect research timelines and development programs. Engineering, facilities, asset management, and scientific teams therefore need increasingly coordinated operating models that connect infrastructure decisions with research priorities.
The event will feature more than 30 speakers and 28+ case studies and interactive sessions, with participation from organizations including Sanofi, Boehringer Ingelheim, Takeda, Gilead Sciences, Eli Lilly, Bristol Myers Squibb, Novartis, Regeneron, Pfizer, and other pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. The summit is expected to connect more than 190 senior industry leaders.
A new LAFM Exchange will provide an additional forum for participants to discuss the operational challenges affecting laboratory and facility management. The Discover → Develop → Action format is intended to move discussions beyond information sharing toward peer problem-solving and practical implementation.
The R&D Operations Action Day will further emphasize actionable strategies, providing participants with opportunities to translate lessons from case studies and peer discussions into approaches applicable to their own research environments.
As pharmaceutical and biotechnology R&D becomes increasingly dependent on sophisticated laboratories, connected assets, and resilient infrastructure, effective facility and asset management is becoming an important component of research performance. The Lab Asset & Facility Management Summit 2026 will provide a focused environment for examining how organizations can build more efficient, technology-enabled, and resilient R&D operations.
