Promega Releases Spectrum Compact CE Instrument

By Pharma Tech Outlook | Friday, September 11, 2020

The new Spectrum Compact CE System allows life scientists in laboratories to perform Sanger sequencing and fragment analysis at the bench.

FREMONT, CA: Promega launches its benchtop capillary electrophoresis (CE) instrument, the Spectrum Compact CE System, developed in partnership with Hitachi High-Tech. The CE system is an integrated DNA analysis instrument that allows life scientists in laboratories big and small to perform Sanger sequencing and fragment analysis at the desk.

The Spectrum Compact CE System has flexible run scheduling, easy-to-use interface, convenient benchtop size, separate plug-and-play consumables, and on-site installation and operational training. The instrument powers applications like microsatellite instability analysis,  forensic STR analysis, mixed sample analysis, and cell line authentication. It analyzes up to 32 samples in a single run. It can be controlled by an integrated touchscreen or additional software that lets access from any registered computer on the same network. Guided software brings capillary electrophoresis abilities to the hands of any scientist in the laboratory regardless of skill level.

The Spectrum Compact CE is personal, a huge advantage that scientists will see with this device. An individual can come to the laboratory with lesser training, transform all the consumables, choose which chemistries they want to use for DNA sequencing and fragment analysis, and carry out the experiment. Everybody has access, and it democratizes the use of the instrument in the laboratory.

Promega is also providing extensive support to laboratories deploying a Spectrum Compact CE into their workflow, including on-site instrument and software deployment and operational training. Technical Services Scientists are prepared to help with data analysis and reports, and Field Support and Validation Services Scientists are available to help with maintenance and validation.

Hitachi High-Tech and Promega announced plans in 2017 to develop a high-performing, high-value, compact capillary electrophoresis device. The Spectrum Compact CE System used Hitachi High-Technologies expertise as the leading developer of capillary electrophoresis and Promegas expertise as the industry’s leading manufacturer of reagents and STR kits.
