StudyKIK: Helping Better Manage and Accelerate the Clinical Trial Lifecycle

Today, site burden is a real challenge in the e-clinical trial management space.

As the industry becomes increasingly digital, site coordinators and extended site team members continuously need to learn different technologies. The problem, however, is that the tools vary depending on the protocol and sponsor, making it a challenge to keep up.

Recruitment Through Retention and Everything Between

“We work closely with research sites and take an approach that truly listens to the needs of the site as we build our technologies. Their feedback heavily influences the products we develop. Our new site portal, in fact, was developed after extensive rounds of site interviews to ensure their main pain points were addressed,” says Brian Kay, CEO of StudyKIK.

Our solutions are designed to be user intuitive so a user can jump right in and get started, whether it’s a patient, site, or sponsor

Initially focused on building diverse patient communities to address the needs of patient recruitment, StudyKIK has grown upon that foundation by significantly expanding its technology portfolio. The company now offers one of the most comprehensive clinical trial management platforms on the market to streamline patient recruitment, engagement, and retention management—all in one place. This ensures faster enrollment, reduced site burden, higher levels of study compliance, and in-depth analytics for data-backed decision-making.

StudyKIK understands that the clinical trial space is constantly evolving, and the challenges and needs of each study differ. To keep up, StudyKIK has developed scalable technologies that can easily adapt to changing requirements. The company, in fact, is the only vendor in the market that streamlines recruitment, e-consent, retention, and all the points in between. This also means that StudyKIK’s interface has consistency and eliminates the learning curve that comes with most solutions.

“Our solutions are designed to be user intuitive, so a user can jump right in and get started, whether it’s a patient, site, or sponsor,” says Brian Kay.

Through its 1700+ social media communities, StudyKIK connects 40,000 patients to trials globally every month and offers pre-qualification with an in-house, 24/7, global call center. These prescreened patients funnel into its site portal, allowing research sites to track, manage, and stay connected with patients. StudyKIK has seen accelerated enrollment, with over 3.1 million patients enrolled in more than 5,200 protocols and growing. Once a patient is enrolled in a study, the company helps keep them engaged and connected to the trial. To achieve this, they leverage custom mobile applications (study companion apps) as an interactive tool that can send out reminders, track diaries, conduct in-app video visits, and help promote study compliance.

At the sponsor level, StudyKIK captures in-depth analytics and metrics on trial performance, site activity, and enrollment timelines. The company has developed the capabilities to consolidate this data into one clinical trial management solution. This plays a vital role in improving the experience for sites, patients, and sponsors through interconnected technologies.

For example, StudyKIK recently supported a sponsor conducting a Phase III trial for a rare pediatric dermatology condition. The first two trials failed due to poor retention, which caused a significant loss of revenue for that company. However, the sponsor was able to identify that the issue was not the efficacy of the product but that patients were falling out of compliance between weeks 8-12. They contracted StudyKIK to develop a custom study mobile application to support retention and encourage compliance for the third trial attempt.

StudyKIK designed the app to be engaging and fun with the pediatric population in mind and used push notifications for appointment reminders, visit expectations, and surveys to enhance patient/caregiver use of the application. The frequency of these notifications increased between weeks 8-12, which in the previous two trials had seen the highest rate of patients falling out of compliance.

After two failed Phase III trials, the third attempt, which leveraged StudyKIK’s mobile application, was successful. The application saw a push notification open rate of 94 percent and a high level of study compliance, with less than 5 percent of patients missing daily treatments. That sponsor is now advancing the product to bring it to market and to patients.
